Pleasant Cold Rainy Day? I think not

I've been struggling to get my taxes done for like a month now. Not because they're that difficult - but because I took them to someone to have them done. They made some errors on the return and it didn't get filed when they tried to submit it. They also had some errors on the return - and it was just a huge mess. So, like a month ago, the day I got my taxes filed I sent the lady and email to try to sort things out. I got an email back from her in a reasonable amount of time with an "I'm checking on it." Okay - whatever. I call and leave a message later in the week because she didn't respond in a reasonable amount of time. No response. She sends me an email telling me what day to expect a call from her. Nothing. I email her again with a "I haven't heard from you." Nothing. I leave a voicemail. I get another email saying that she'll call me this afternoon. Okay I think, she knows I'm really anxious about this - I told her in the voicemail. It will get solved.

I haven't heard from her at 2pm - so I giver her a quick call. I know it's early - but it's been like a month. The secretary tells me she'll call me back. I call again at 4pm - super anxious b/c I know they close at 5pm. The secretary tries to assure me that the lady really will call, but she's busy. Umm excuse me, how am I less important than other people??? I tell the secretary I'll be there by 4:45pm. Two minutes later I call back and ask her to just refund my money I paid when I thought they were getting filed originally - but got screwed up. She's like, I have nothing to do with that. I'm like, Fine, I'll be there in a few minutes. I show up, the secretary tells me it will be a while. I said "I'll wait."

Eventually some other lady, who was super nice came over to try to help me, clearly lady one did not want to deal with me anymore. She's really nice and tries to help me. I insist upon a refund, b/c of all this crap. It's ridiculous that I'm paying for a service and don't get a timely response. The excuse "we're busy this time of year" - umm of course you are, you do taxes, it's tax time. I'm not in charge of managing your time - if I was, my taxes would have been filed and I would have solved this issue already. After I explain myself for like the fourth time, she sympathizes - and gets the manager - who of course is not in the office - to authorize a refund.

Lady one comes into the room, and appologizes for nothing really - just says some words to try to placate me. I thank lady number two for all her help resolving the situation and shake her hand, ignoring lady number one. I walk out.

Now - I just had to file online and spend additional time to do my taxes. Freaking A. I tried to make it easier for myself - but the reality was that it was even more difficult to file my taxes, it took way more time than it should have, and made me way more stressed out than if I had just done it myself.

Lessons learned. When in doubt, trust yourself more than people you pay to do things right and on time.
