Someone not going down in this depression: Universities
I think it's absolutely hilarious that more people are looking at going back to school - specifically going to university. People go to university in hopes of getting a higher paying job. The problem is that many people think that just getting a degree, any degree, will make them more money. This logic is extremely flawed. I totally subscribe to the fact that college is not for all people. If you are going to school for a program that does not directly lead to a position that pays well, why are you there? I'm sorry but a program in Art History is not going to get you a higher paying job that what you would get out of high school.
For some reason, my parents generation looked down on trade schools. I'm not sure why the social shift. But it was a terrible idea. The reality of the situation is for the kids that aren't motivated or smart enough to get university mostly paid for - I really don't think they should be in university. If your first year's salary in your after university job - post taxes - is less than your student loan debt in order to attend - you either need to choose a different university that is cheaper, or you need to not go. Because if you get out of university with 50K in student loan debt, and you only make 30K a year, you probably should consider a different career path.
Yes people can argue that that 30K will grow over time and you can pay it off quicker. I would argue that it won't grow enough in most positions to make it worth while to take on that much debt.
Make smart life decisions people. Don't make decisions you think someone else wants you to make. Make the right one for you. Screw everyone else and whatever they think. It's your life, make it what you want.
