Google Reader's bad suggestions

So over vacation we had a discussion about how much someone should tip. Essentially my tipping policy is that you start at 20% and are reduced by everything that you do wrong. If it takes 20 minutes to get your attention b/c you are too busy flirting with the bar keeper - or if you bug me every 10 seconds to take away my plate so that you can turn the table faster. Extremely rarely would I tip more - and only if the person was a complete RockStar and really entertaining. Typically entertaining me while I eat == bigger tip. Or earned % back for bad service. This generally results in a 15-20% tip. Though, if they are really bad - it can result in even less. Like if you screw up multiple times, or if you make a mistake, I ask for it corrected and then you argue about if it was really a mistake or not. I know that the kitchen didn't put asparagus in my pasta like they were supposed to, dumping watery non chopped up steamed asparagus on top after you put it in a take out container does not make it better. Taking a percentage off the bill does. Arguing about the asparagus supposed to be in the dish to begin with - only makes you look stupid when I pull out the menu and make you read it. == <10% tip.

What makes me really really really angry are the people that EXPECT a 20% tip. A tip is just that - a little something extra for a job well done. It is not a right and a person should not be expected to tip you well if you do a crappy job. Blogs like this: http://www.bitterwaitress.com/std/index.php?method=range&list=classifiedscategory&rollid=11&fromlist=classifiedscategory&frommethod=showhtmllist&fromid=11&fromfromlist=classifiedscategory&fromfrommethod=showhtmllist really fucking piss me off. How come the names of the bad tippers are listed - but not the waiters/waitress???? I suspect that in probably 70% of these cases that the servers did a bad job. Yes, there are some crappy tippers out there - but the waiters/waitresses know that when they signed up for the job; accept reality and stop your bitching. The problem is introspection. Most have no stories - and there is not one opportunity for the patron to offer a rebuttle. It's the equivalent of a mob hanging. No trial - these people are guilty b/c they didn't tip well for bad service. Fucking waiters/waitresses who can't do their jobs. Yes I know sometimes you get the brunt of someone else's mistake - WELCOME TO CUSTOMER SERVICE! It's your fucking job. If you knew it was a mistake - and you did something to correct for it - like here - I know that the cook just screwed up your order - so in the mean time I will give you extra bread, super apologize for it and then when your meal is finished give you free dessert. I know that it wasn't your fault - but your job is not only to do your job right but to cover up for everyone else's fuck up. You're the last line of defense to the customer. If you don't understand that - then you probably aren't doing your job right and therefore aren't getting the tips you want. Sucks. The great part about when you fix other people's mistakes and over compensate - you generally get tipped more than usual. Hum. Small wonder.

I think what my real problem is with this is that people think that doing the bare minimum is their job. It's not. People always say stuff like "that's not in my job descriptions." A job description is not an end all be all for every single duty or task at work - it's a general outline of most things that MUST be done - not the should be done or need to be dones. Life is pretty simple when you think for yourself and stop just doing everything that you are told.

I got my first tomato today. Ripe and everything. I should take a picture.
