Texas this week

For the rest of the week I'll be in Texas. I have to admit that I'm a little scared of going. I'm not sure that I'm ready for the huge belt buckles and the Stetsons. No, that is not a stereotype. My cousins moved from Ohio to Texas and came back with them. Plus the girls had the Texas Hair (IE BIG hair.) So I know that it can happen. I think that Houston will be okay and more "northenized" while I expect that Austin will be a little more... how do I put this... Texas. I'll report back with my findings.

I'm amazed at how much people at this new place are willing to admit/tell me about their future plans. My boss admitted to me that he's applied to graduate school in his home country and most likely will be starting in another year. That says that in less than a year there is going to be a huge upheaval in the US office. It will be an interesting time to be sure. We'll see how long I last/put up with it. I'm trying not to make any judgments yet because I haven't really been there long enough to really take the lay of the land. So, I'm attempting to hold off, it's not going so well.

I’m not sure if this job will be a long term solution in terms of getting me closer to hopefully owning my own business. It’s too early to tell yet. I have to admit that I don’t feel quite as incompetent as I did a few weeks ago. A couple of problems I’ve been able to solve relatively easily, which, to no one’s amazement, really helps with self-confidence. It’s that whole theory that the early wins are the most important in terms of building momentum.

If you’ve never watched the movie “Meet the Robinsons” I would definitely recommend it, just because I like the underlying theme of “Just keep moving;” which is something that I subscribe to. Sometimes you fail, sometimes you succeed, but what is important is to learn from your mistakes and just keep learning => and move on with life.
