More on Tel Aviv
I've done a bit more sight seeing in Tel Aviv. It's a young city - and there are not that many touristy things to do (if you are used to living in a big city.) Many of the things that you can do are very similar to any other big city in the world, shopping, going to the market, sitting in a cafe, etc. So it's not all that exciting after you visit a few different large cities.
I did go to Jaffa - which is an old Arab city along the sea next to Tel Aviv. I put those pictures up in my Picasa. I've done a lot of walking around the city - but nothing really of note other than what I've said before. Tel Aviv is quite large - and it is safe to walk around, but not the most efficient form of transportation. I could go shopping - but I don't really need any more clothing or anything. There are tons of dead-sea products here as well. I hate buying touristy crap and then having nothing to do with it when I get home. I should probably buy something to at least remember the trip.
Tomorrow I am going to take a guided tour of Jerusalem. Some guys from work were going to take me - but Pres Bush was there until today - and they had to shut down the city. A couple of people from work did go out to dinner with me last night to a nice Israeli restaurant, apparently by some famous chef. I could tell that the one guy was very comfortable with it, and the other one was not used to going to very nice places. The food was pretty good, not amazing fancy smancy food, but it was his "common" restaurant instead of his upscale one. For the price it was very good.
I also posted some pictures of my room in my new apartment. It basically just looks like a pile of boxes and a bed. Because that is all that is there. I didn't really have any time to unpack before I had to leave - so everything is just sitting there waiting for me. It's a bit stressful to think about all the stuff that I have to do when I get back. But on the other hand, I can't do anything about any of them until I do get back - so I will just not think about it until the plane ride home.
