First Day on the Job
So today was the first day. I forgot how overwhelming the first day can be. I was so good at my job and knew everything that it's hard to remember a time that I wasn't at the top of the knowledge pile. Here I am, at the bottom. Hopefully, learning quickly. I didn't accomplish much today - signed papers, set up my computer, ordered a cell phone, went through the policies/procedures, attempted to try to do some real work. The guy that was trying to show me things was almost painfully slow. I really wanted to crack him over the head sometimes. He kept his cool though on the phone with customers, and did have a good relationship with them. I guess all of that stuff that you go do to customer relationships really does help you and the customer out.
I also found out that they are okay paying for airport parking while I'm away. This basically rocks. It means that I don't have to find a way to do all the crazy shit to get a resident parking permit. Instead, I can just chill out tomorrow morning when the movers get here and then deal with all the insurance change over crap and stuff after I get back. This makes live SOOOO much easier now.
I also found out that they have a $50/day meal per diem. How much does that rock? They allow $9 for breakfast - and for some weird reason if you stay in a hotel that does not offer breakfast you get an additional $9 for breakfast - for a total of $59/day. So basically - I'll make $700 while I'm in Israel - just for eating. I don't know about you - but I'm a Starbucks girl myself. Give me that $4.5 triple latte in the morning and I'm good to go.
They are also having someone pick me up from the hotel and take me to work and back to the hotel everyday.
It's all a little exciting and a little hectic all at the same time. I really feel like I am forgetting something today - but I have no idea what it is. Hopefully I'll remember before I go to bed tonight. I guess that I'll have some time tomorrow to sort it out before the movers come as well.
One more day until I have to go! Wish me luck!
