Bites on my Ass

When I went to Jaffa last Friday, I sat down on a bench to watch a tour guide make fun of Americans in Hebrew. While I was sitting down I felt something on the top of my ass like right above your butt crack. I swatted away the flies and pulled up my pants and pulled down my shirt. I had no idea that these were KILLER FLIES! I now have these annoying bites on my bum that itch like mosquito bites that are clearly not mosquito bites. They do not seem to go away. The fact that I keep itching my butt has nothing to do with this, I am sure.

The hotel that they put me up in has been really great. I have on complaint. The bed is not one double/queen sized bed; but, rather two twin beds pushed together to give the illusion of a large bed. This is annoying in so many ways. A) The two beds are not of equal firmness. B) The beds are not at the exact same height creating a rather large and annoying crack in the middle of the bed. C) I can't sleep in the middle of the bed like I normally do which snuffs out my normal attempts to roll around while I'm sleeping to get comfortable.

To whoever thought that a split bed was a good idea: You are wrong. It's terrible to sleep in with one or two people. Unless you are looking for cuddling via xkcd. Even then, a large single mattress would be optimal for the pre-cuddle phase. I've only got two more nights on the weird ass split mattress, I'm sure I'll survive. At least the place is clean, the staff is extremely helpful, and I have an amazing view of the Mediterranean Sea.

I've been in Israel now for a week and a half - and the one thing that I still do not have a good handle on is the company culture. It will take a while to fully understand it, but it's a bit of a culture shock as well. Not in terms of hours that people work, what people eat, etc. but more on the order of people's attitudes and feeling towards work. The realities of working in such a small company that sells their products globally is that working hours are not as set in stone as most companies in the US. There is not really a 9-5 attitude, people are much more flexible on things in terms of time. It makes for an interesting combination.
