You Owe me an IOU

I'm absolutely amazed by how stupid and dumb the general population is. Not just about book learning/schooling - but rather common sense kinds of things.

Today I took my bi-weekly(monthly) jaunt to the laundry mat so that I could have some clean fresh smelling clothes for work on Monday. (Someone please remind me to go to the dry cleaner too - I've got a shit ton of stuff that needs dry cleaning... Does anyone know a dry cleaner who will pick it up at home and drop it off at my work? Does that exist? If not it should.) There was this lady there with her two small children - both girls under the age of six. Not a big deal right? A lot of people have kids. This lady proceeded to yell at her kids to stop running around and just stand still near her - who was talking on her cell phone the entire time. Then she starts threatening her kids b/c they aren't behaving. This lady brought NOTHING for two kids under six to do - in a hot laundry mat for 2+ hours. I wanted to appolgize to the kids for how stupid their mother way - for yelling at them when she should have been yelling at herself. You can't stick two small kids together for two hours with nothing to entertain them - and ignore them and talk on the phone instead. There was a really easy solution to this situation. She could have used it to do something educational - read them a book, played a game, taught them a game to entertain each other - brought some toys for them to play with. Anything other than yelling at them for being kids. Freaking ridiculous.

And we wonder why kids are getting dumber. It's not the kids fault - it's their parents. These are the same parents who bitch to the school system because their kids aren't smart enough. Hello! It's the parents not the kids who instill values and expectations.

Another oxymoron that's pissing me off lately - the people who are against birth control/abortion/sex before marriage/whatever and who are for spaying and neutering their cats and dogs - and even think that it should be regulated. How are these two things different? Humans are animals too - if you want to control the pet population - how are you against controlling the human population too? I don't get it.

It's amazing how the little things in life are some of the most enjoyable. I don't care what kind of car I drive (exhibit A: Mufasa my 96 Mercury Sable that needs a new muffler - he growls like a lion - which is why his name is Mufasa...) but I really care about what kind of sheets I sleep on at night (600+ count egyptian cotton.) I think the little things are what make life good. The big stuff is nice - but I look at my grandparents who are really happy with each other - and they don't have lots of fancy cars and enormous houses and stuff. But they are happy... I want what they have when I'm 80 years old.
