Elevator

It is so cold. You have to realize that cold is a very different sensation and starts at a very different temperature for me than most people. (I blame this on the time the hospital soaked towels in ice water to bring down my high fever when I was little - I think that forever has screwed up my internal thermometer. I kinda understand what they did - I did have a fever of like 106F - I'm still pissed I didn't get that Popsicle they promised me.) Now, when it gets down to 70 - my uncovered skin is literally cold to the touch. What can I say? I'm a freak.

I usually just wear sweaters to work or fleeces in the middle of the summer and switch from flip-flops to euro-trash shoes (which I claim are much classier than American sneakers and therefore I can wear them to work.... that and our dress policy says something to the effect of "and whatever is appropriate work wear for women.") People think I'm weird - I'm warm - so I don't really care how foolish it looks to wear a sweater inside in the air conditioning when it's 98 degrees outside. (I take it off when I go outside!)

The problem is that we have a lot of menopausal women at my job - the one always thinks it's cold (like me - but I'm not going through menopause...) and the other always thinks its hot. It's rather amusing the fight that goes on over the thermostat in their office area. People are constantly fighting over how warm or cold it should be. I happily put on a sweater and walk away laughing... you have to remember I grew up in a household that was poor/farmers. It was sacrilegious to put the temperature above 68 degrees in the winter. You got used to wearing three layers and hiding under a blanket most of the time.

I do the same now. Old habits die hard. It seems weird not to just pull out a blanket and curl up under it.... It's kind of comforting actually.

On the upside of today - I think the plumber solved my sink issues. (It was really gross - black water from who knows where was filling up my sink... it wasn't sewage - but thanks for asking.) Yeah for having a sink that works.
