Mass Media is Changing

It's pretty amazing how stuff changes over such a short period of time. The presidential debates for the different parties used to be rarely watched and seldem quoted. Now - they're easily accessible at any time of the day on places like YouTube. The merger of 'standard' media with 'modern' media is happening - and happening fast. Online media used to be looked at as the bastard brother of the major TV news media. Now they are merging - and it seems like online media is almost winning.

I was looking at HDTV's the other day - and a question popped into my head is why are people buying TV's when everything should just be streaming TV online. Who wants to watch TV on some arbitrary schedule that the stations set for us. I don't want to have to schedule my day around a program I enjoy. What happens if I get in a traffic jam and am twenty minutes late for LOST!? I'd be pissed. Which is why online TV is amazing. What pisses me off is that the rating systems (read neilson) has not caught up with current tv watching habits. People love flexibility so the rating system needs to keep up with current habits. Not keeping up hurts both viewers, advertisers, and stations. The viewers who watch online - don't get counted and their favorite shows get canceled, the advertisers don't know who the target audience is and thus can't pick the right market to target, the stations get told that there are not as many viewers as there are - and reduce the profits that they make from advertisers. This just goes to show - don't trust any companies who make up ratings.

College ratings are the dumbist thing on the face of the planet. People are always concerned about how their school is ranked. Fuck that. Everyone needs to pick a school that they are comfortable at and will serve them well. Not every school will serve every student well.

I'm watching the democratic debate right now - can I just say that I love Anderson Cooper? He really nails people to the wall if they don't answer. As a view - just let me say thank you.
