Major Differences
I never had any idea until now how vastly different the hiring process can be. The contrast between the two hiring process for the two companies I have already scheduled interviews with is striking. The first one just schedules everything for me -- flight hotel etc. Does everything for me other than the expense report which I figure I'll get once I get to the interview. The second doesn't even schedule a hotel for me, but give me all the paperwork upfront. This paperwork not only includes the schedule -- but goes way beyond that. I have to consent to a background check and sign off on a drug test, along with a formal invite to visit the company, directions, etc. It's really interesting to see how different the two places are.
In more interesting news (to me -- probably not to you) I finally got my desktop full up and running (what like three months after the drive failed -- I'm finally getting things running again...) The drive was able to quarantine some of the failed portions -- so I've been able to recover a lot of data that I thought I had lost forever (like my 2005 Tax Returns). This does not discount the major portion of the drive which was my music and movie collection (40G drive -- mostly music and movies + some random school documents.) So it's still a little sticky -- but overall I've been able to do a lot. I need to transfer some more stuff -- then I think I'll wipe the drive clean and reinstall. Then I'll wirelessly network the two -- and hopefully everything will be all good. I'll have the best of both worlds.
Because I've been able to get into it and use it -- I've also been able to get all of my blog links back. Makes it much easier to keep up with people if you know what the links are.
I think I'm going to try to go out and buy some new pants for my interview next week. I have a couple cute suite jackets -- but I'm not in love with the pants I have. I also have a very huge need to do my laundry, there's a lot left to do. In reality I should have scheduled for someone to fix the exhaust on my car -- but it's really expensive -- and I'm avoiding it. I know it's probably not a good thing -- but it hasn't been loud at all lately. I also want to clean up my place before I go, so that I do not have to come back to a really messy apartment. I'm glad that I did not buy tons of food at the grocery store -- then I would have had to try to eat it all before I leave on Thursday morning. I can't believe that it's so close!!!
I still haven't explained at work where I'm going on the 15-16. I don't really know how to explain it. I feel really bad -- but I completely lied about the 23rd in CT -- by saying that I was going to visit some friends in Boston -- which technically I will be over the weekend. I'm just making a little bit of a stop off in CT first.... I still feel bad for lying I would rather just not explain it and not have to explain later that I lied about where I was. I'm such an upfront and straightforward person -- it's hard for me to not be that way about interviewing at other companies. I am excited to go back to Boston for a weekend. I haven't been there in a while.
I should probably also look for some more job openings and contact some of the recruiters I have names for. Who know how either of these positions will turn out. I went on quite a lot of interviews last time and I don't just want to take any position -- I want it to be the right one for me and not just take anything just because I want to leave.
My boss did make a comment about me spending vacation days like candy... It will only be three days since the beginning of the year, that's not that many days. What am I supposed to do? I don't want to delay these interviews for longer than I have to. There's not much I can do about it.
