Creme Brulee and Shin Splints
I bought the COOLEST kitchen gadet on the face of the planet. A culinary torch. At was a little fussy at first -- but once the flame really got going it was awesome. After eating tons of creme brulee in france, I knew that the next kitchen gadet i was going to buy would have to be the torch. It is litterally the most fun thing in my kitchen. Who needs a stove when I've got a torch! So after eating one of the three creme brulees I made yesterday (which were actually pretty easy to make -- email me if you want the recipe), it is very clearly that is is the best kitchen purchase EVER!
Well my body definate does not like the excersize I've been making it do lately -- and has been protesting heartily in the form of shin splints. If you've ever had shin splints you know how disabilitating they are. Really freaking obnioxious. Just when you're getting into the swing of things -- your body bites back and basically just screams at you anytime you try to walk. I guess no more running for me this week, I'll have to stick to the ellipical, bike, or the weird gazellely things that they just added at the gym. I think I can still lift weights -- I haven't found any advise online saying that I shouldn't. Maybe I'll go for a swim this week too -- no use doing nothing and sitting on my bum just because of a minor injury.
My german class has been going pretty well -- keeps me semi-busy with something productive. Unfortunately it's really freaking slow. I was expecting a class at a community college to be ... well.. more like college. Clealry I forgot that the majority of people going to a community college were not good enough in school to get into a competitive university -- and the expectations of students are thus set very low. It's been really easy doing well in the class -- I don't have to put much effort in to do well. At least it does motivate me to study and complete the excersises in the book so that I don't make dumb responses in class. I think my grade so far is like 105% -- I didn't think that you could get over 100% -- apparently you can. The worst mistakes that I have made so far are spelling -- but I can't spell in english -- so I'm not too concerned.
I am actually going to go to DC in two weeks (well less than that now) for a trade show for work. I'm glad to finally be able to get out of the office, and it's nice that I'll be able to travel. Plus there is a Neuhaus Chocolatier in DC -- which means -- tasty Belgium chocolate. When my mom and I went to France -- we did a day trip to Brussels -- and we bought chocolate from Neuhaus and Galler (we didn't do Godiva b/c it's all over the states anyways -- not like it's hard to find.) Neuhaus was by far my favorite. The only problem is it's freaking hard to find in the US -- you can have it shipped from Beligum -- but it costs like $40 just for shipping. There are only stores in NYC, DC, San Francisco, and Seattle. Thus anytime anyone who reads this blog goes to one of these citys -- Stop by Neuhaus and pick me up some Brussels' Truffles (I know it rhymes -- but they are VERY TASTY.) I'll pay you back. If the choclate will last till christmas I'll pick some up for X-mas presents. If not -- I guess everyone's going to get Halloween presents this year.
I've finally starting applying for jobs -- It's hard to get yourself into the mindset to be able to do it. But I think I'm finally there. Even though they are sending me to a trade show (whick twice before I've been said -- oh you'll be going to this one -- then at the last minute told "you're too busy to go.") Everything is all "too little, too late" at this point. I'm just not that interested in all the bullshit anymore.
I've offically started a "travel fund" as well. Basically for the next trip I want to take. So far I have over $600 -- I figure if I throw in a couple hundred every month -- it will allow me to save up enough to take that next trip to Italy or Germany (or maybe even Australia.) Even if I only throw in $200 a month in my HSBC 5.05% savings account-- that's $2455 at the end of the year -- that's a full trip -- flight/hotel/train travel/fun money to Europe. I could take that once a year. If I can throw in $300 a month then it's $3683. That's a week in Australia in a nice hotel -- but not much "fun" money left over. If I stayed in a cheap hotel -- then that's a week in Australia with "fun" money to spare.
Maybe I should start saving up for a down payment on a house. . . maybe I should figure out where I want to live first.
