And the saga continues...

So ... come home today relatively early -- around 520pm or so. The plumber's "short-bus" (IE he bought an old tart cart and is now using it for his plumbing business) is parked outside the front of my appartment building. Okay -- so maybe he's just finishing up a bit. So I go into my appartment and look at the huge hole in my bedroom wall ripped from ceiling to floor (about 30-40cm wide or so) and a PVC pipe haphazardly lying inside the wall. Okay -- so I guess he's not done. About 20 minutes later I meet the plumber and he tells me a harrowing tale.

They started ripping out the wall and they smelled gas coming from the heating vent (clearly nothing should be coming from the vent when it's 80 degrees F outside. So the landlord and the plumber search around and find that the gas fireplace in the appartment behind me -- (like a 100 year old gas fireplace) -- the gas line has corroded and is now leaking gas. So they turn off all the gas in the building and then have RG&E (Rochester Gas and Electric) come out and fix it.

So, at 520 -- he says that he hasn't been doing much plumbing all day because of the gas leak. Great.... So as I'm type typity typing on my dust keyboard -- the plumber is working about 10 feet away from me trying to install the PVC pipe in the wall.

What makes this whole senario even better is that the wall base is brick -- covered over with a plastered wall. And by plastered wall I mean they put in 2x4's then layed that thin wood over it latterally and then litterally plastered over it. Real old school style. That's going to be a pain to fix. Glad I'm not the landlord having to pay for all this siznit.

Wait for the next installment of the plumbing saga next week when someone comes to repair the big fat hole in the wall and tries to paint over it. Maybe I can convince my landlord to allow me to pain the walls myself -- a slightly better color than "BU Bone."
